My recent trip to visit Kelly Tivnan, the force behind pastperfekt, revealed two things straight up. First, she has an amazing and jealousy-inducing studio space in an old book press, and second, her work in interior products and furniture is just breathtaking in a perfectly quirky kind of way. Being a collector of all things potentially useful, her atelier is filled with curiosities, raw materials and an array of serious-looking tools. All of which contribute to the creation of her range of upcycled lamps, jewellery, furniture and interior spaces.
Having been recently featured on Fab, Kelly is now busily working on her one-off pieces and various commissioned spaces, which she is becoming quite known for. Her particular specialty in the installation department is kitchens. After having admired the bar/servery at the Agora collective space in Neukolln on many coffee occasions, I was delighted to discover that too is one of Kelly’s works, created with her friends at Re-Make/Re-Model. Another collaboration of note is her work with till - air plants. Such a beautiful idea.
In every product you see love and personality, drawn from both the maker and the previous life of the materials. Kelly creates each piece by hand, combining upcycled materials she expertly sources from friends, thrift stores, flea markets and even the roadside. You would be hard-pressed to find products of a similar nature anywhere. This is one of the reasons pastperfekt has gained a reputation in Berlin so quickly and is now so well-recognised.
If you’re an insider in the independent retail scene in Berlin you will most definitely have noticed Sag+Sal popping up all over the place. Since officially starting the label in 2010, Andjelko Artic and Rupert Jensch have quickly expanded their range of bags and accessories to sell in stores all over Germany, with the recent addition of stockists in Poland and the USA.

So it’s taking some time for the heat of Summer to kick in. That doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared! Who doesn’t love a versatile, laid back combo?
